Update: 10-28: We have located some bad LDAP nodes and have taken them out of service; so email should be restored for users.
We are still working on a root cause for the bad LDAP nodes.

A recent upgrade on dev.gentoo.org (woodpecker) has caused authentication problems for many users.
Expect problems interacting with smtp, pop3, and imap services until we can resolve this issue.
